WSU Alumni Week of Service Frequently Asked Questions

What is WSU Alumni Week of Service?
For one week each fall, WSU Alumni Week of Service unites alumni across the world for volunteerism. This event is dedicated to showcasing the incredible ways that #WarriorsGiveBack.

Where is WSU Alumni Week of Service taking place?
Alumni Week of Service has options for everyone no matter where they are located.

  • Locals joined us in 2022 on and near campus by dropping off a donation to the W Food Pantry or to the Warrior Wardrobe for students in need. They also joined the Friends of Palmer Park for a group cleanup!
  • Anyone can also join by registering for an independent project. With this option, alumni can volunteer in any way that they desire from anywhere in the world. Some alums continue projects that they've already started with their favorite organizations, others connect with friends and family for group projects, and some volunteer virtually from home. All projects big or small are welcome and every contribution makes a difference.

What is an independent project?
Wherever you live, you are encouraged to roll up your sleeves and make a difference in your community in whatever way you choose during the WSU Alumni Week of Service. Register an independent project of your choice.

Who can sign up for WSU Alumni Week of Service?
All Wayne State alumni, their friends and family are welcome to volunteer and demonstrate how #WarriorsGiveBack

Do I need to register in advance?
Yes, advanced registration is required for all projects even independent projects you do on your own. If you plan to participate in any way, read our Volunteer Release & Waiver of Liability and register online at alumni.wayne.edu/service. If you have questions, please email wsuaa@wayne.edu or call 313-577-2300.

What is the registration deadline?
Registration deadlines for each 2023 project offering are available on the Week of Service website.

How should I dress to volunteer?
We encourage you to wear your favorite Wayne State gear as you engage in your project and share your participation on social media.

How can I share my enthusiasm for WSU Alumni Week of Service?
Last year, photos showcasing volunteer work won gift cards by mentioning @waynestatealum including the hashtag #WarriorsGiveBack. Wayne State gear is welcomed and encouraged.

What if I can't volunteer that week?
If you can't volunteer, there are still ways to get involved and share in the spirit of community. Please help us spread the word on social media by sharing the WSU Alumni Week of Service posts that come across your feed, or consider making a gift at giving.wayne.edu/donate to support Wayne State student success and the programs that mean the most to you.
