Staff Who Inspire: Leo & Kimberly Tomaszewski

Leo and Kimberly TomaszewskiLeo Tomaszewski and his wife Kimberly Toby-Tomaszewski have nearly 60 years combined experience working at Wayne State; Leo as supervisor of Library Facilities and Kimberly as a buyer in the university's Procurement & Strategic Sourcing department.

Their long relationship with the university has allowed them to see the impact they have made through giving.

"I've always really enjoyed working here. Since I work with people I don't share a profession with, I've learned a lot from them," said Leo, who manages construction projects throughout the Library System. "I like finding the best way to customize things to meet the needs of my internal clients and I've learned a lot of interesting things along the way."

Early in his career at Wayne State, a coworker shared with Leo the university's culture of philanthropy the feeling that "we look out for our own" to help the university thrive from within. That resonated with Leo, and he and Kimberly became regular donors, giving to different departments and causes over the years and, in recent years the Walter P. Reuther Library.

Leo and Kimberly choose to give via payroll deduction. "You don't have to worry about it it's automatic and it's always taken care of," said Leo.

He is excited to see continued updates at the Reuther, including new carpeting installed this year that is funded by donations. "It's nice to see that we're making a difference and that the money is going somewhere where it's needed. I love Wayne State and I'll always give as long as I'm here."

Like Leo and Kimberly, you have the opportunity to help others right here at Wayne State. There are many deserving funds that directly affect people, critical research and our surrounding communities. Visit our list of schools, colleges and programs to find your inspiration and give now.
