Donors surpass previous Giving Day participation

The Wayne State University community came together in an inspiring show of support on April 8 for Giving Day 2021. Wayne State is grateful for the overwhelming participation, which surpassed Giving Day 2020. This year, 1,717 donors raised half a million dollars to support students, faculty, research, diversity and inclusion - and more than 100 causes across campus.

UP FOR THE CHALLENGES

Wayne State's fifth Giving Day returned to the annual spring event after the pandemic shifted Giving Day 2020 to September. Throughout the day, the Wayne State community participated in social media challenges, such as posting an image of your morning caffeine fix to win $250 in support of any area at Wayne State.

Match and challenge dollars for individual causes across schools, colleges and units totaled $119,000, and $220,000 was raised for direct student support. Wayne State donors showed why every gift matters. Gifts under $100 accounted for 45% of total gifts received, proving that when we come together, we are Warrior Strong.

INVITING ALL TO GIVE GREEN AND BE GOLD

A number of events took place throughout the day, including a panel discussion on diversity, equity and inclusion - and an evening of drag queen bingo.

More than 90 ambassadors and many volunteers helped boost participation and social media sharing, inviting alumni, staff, faculty, students, friends and partners to #GiveGreenBeGold. Personal testimonies, photos and videos across social media channels showcased worthy causes and a lot of love and pride for Wayne State.
