WSUPD K-9 team appear in nationwide calendar
Wayne State University Police Officer Thomas Box '15, '18, and his partner Havoc represent October 2019 in a calendar being sold across the country to raise funds for K-9 programs nationwide. The family of the late WSUPD Sgt. Collin Rose donated Havoc - a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois certified in patrol and explosive detection - to the department in June 2017.
Together, Havoc and Box honor Rose's legacy and work together to keep the university safe. Havoc is certified through the National Association of Professional Canine Handlers, but also loves to play fetch and roll around in the dirt.
Each year, 12 law enforcement dogs who have been provided bullet- and stab-protective vests by the nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K9s are featured in the calendar. The group has donated more than 3,100 vests to K-9s in all 50 states at a value of more than $5.7 million.
