A Letter to the Editor

Lifelong Learner So Inspiring

Elizabeth Katz’s feature story on Edward Pintzuk in the Spring 2009 edition of the Wayne State Alumni Association magazine brought a smile to my face. Furthermore, Mr. Pintzuk’s apparent passion for education and zest for life renewed my belief and faith in myself, particularly when it comes to pursuing my educational goals.

Like Pintzuk, and so many other Wayne State alumni, I have attained multiple degrees from our alma mater. Matriculating through WSU has open many doors from me personally and professionally. After receiving my last degree from WSU in 2007, I debated whether or not to pursue doctoral studies. I was accepted into the College of Education’s Curriculum and Instruction doctoral program early this year. However, I have been questioning my desire to pursue such a daunting endeavor. I’ve asked myself — Do I have the intellectual energy, commitment, time, and passion to achieve my goal of attaining a doctorate degree?

Mr. Pintzuk’s story reminded me that learning is a lifelong process, education is a worthwhile investment, and it takes commitment and passion to achieve goals. More importantly he has reminded me of my purpose as an educator.

I may never run into Mr. Pintzuk on campus, or even meet him in person, so I will take this opportunity to say Thank You! You have forever made an impression upon me. You are truly an inspiration for past, present, and future alumni of Wayne State University. I will go forth and grab that brass ring I so desire to reach.

Again, Thank you.
