Young Alumni: CareerBoost! Programs

The Wayne State University Young Alumni Program (Generation Wayne) sponsors CareerBoost! events, which offer a way to network and socialize with fellow alumni while learning valuable career skills. Past CareerBoost programs include "Strategies for Getting Promoted," "The Art of Networking" and "Adventures in Starting Your Business."

Past CareerBoost Programs

Therese Marie Boldt, career and leadership coah, is WJBK FOX2 Detroit's Career Coach.  Her new book, "Yes! You Can Land A Job (Even) In A Crummy Economy" provides practical tips, exercises and a step-by-step structure that effectively prepares those seeking employment to take ownership of their career search.

Therese Marie facilitated a career development workshop as part of the WSU Alumni Association's CareerBoost program. Guests received a copy of her new book and learned how to:

1. Identify personal strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats
2. Evaluate the "health" of their career
3. Identify career priorities
4. Develop an effective presentation and 30-second "commercial"
5. Design and implement results-oriented job search strategies

CareerBoost!:  "Lights, Camera, Action"

Alumni and friends came together on July 22 at WSU's General Lectures Building to listen to Ken Droz, Manager of Communication, Michigan Film Office, detail the new and exciting film projects in Michigan.  He also offered information regarding how to find work in the film industry located in Michigan.

CareerBoost!:  Case studies from the television series Leaders on Leadership:  it's a tough world out there!

This interactive event, presented by Larry Fobes, host of the Emmy Award-winning television show Leaders on Leadership, called on the expertise of former guests.  Attendees watched clips of past guests, such as Paul O'Neill, former secretary of treasury, and Dieter Zetsche, former president and CEO of Chrysler.  They explored a variety of related leadership issues in the context of their own careers.

This was co-sponsored by the School of Business Administration, WTVS-TV (channel 56) and Greenleaf Trust.

CareerBoost!:  Stay Optimistic and Energized in a Constricting Economy

On Thursday, February 19, alumni and students attended CareerBoost!:  Stay Optimistic and Energized in a Constricting Economy.  Marvin J. Jacobs of Wayne State's Career Services department helped students and alumni find inspiration and prepare themselves to walk through the door of opportunity.  Furthermore, he offered practical tips to refresh motivation while getting through the economic slump.
