Join OBA for Third Fridays at LaMusique


The Organization of Black Alumni will host its monthly networking mixer and business card exchange on May 15, 2009.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. at LaMusique restaurant, located in the Hotel St. Regis in Detroit's New Center Area. A cash bar with drink specials will be available.

The event is free, but reservations are required.

Did you know?
  • An Oba, meaning "king," governed the Kingdom of Benin in ancient times. The area was located in a tropical rainforest region in what is now Nigeria. The queen mother was known as the Iyoba.
  • The first African-American student to enroll at WSU (then the Detroit Medical College) was Dr. Henry Fitzbutler in 1871. He later became the dean of a medical school in Kentucky.
  • The first African-American graduate of WSU (then Michigan College of Medicine) was Dr. Robert J. Boland in 1883. He later practiced in Virginia and served as a college trustee at Virginia's Kittrell College.
  • The first African-American female graduate of WSU (then the Detrot Normal Training School) was Etta Brown in 1897. She received a bachelors degree in education.
  • More African-Americans earn their masters and doctoral degrees from Wayne State University than any urban institution of its kind in the country.
